Statutory rates increase for 2017/2018


Statutory rates such as maternity pay, paternity pay, adoption pay, shared parental pay and sick pay usually increase from the first Sunday in April – this year it is 2nd April 2017.


Statutory Maternity Pay will increase from £139.50 to £140.98 (or 90% of the employee’s average weekly earnings if this figure is less than the statutory rate).


Also on the 2nd April 2017, Statutory Paternity Pay and Statutory Shared Parental Pay will also increase from £139.50 to £140.98 (or 90% of the employee’s average weekly earnings if this figure is less than the statutory rate).


Statutory Adoption Pay (SAP) also increases from £139.58 to £140.98.  SAP is payable at 90% of the employee’s average weekly earnings for the first six weeks with the remainder of the adoption pay period at the rate of £140.98 or 90% of the average weekly earnings if this figure is less than the statutory rate.


Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) will increase from £88.45 to £89.35.  The SSP is with effect from 6th April 2017.


A reminder that for an employee to be entitled to these statutory payments, the employee’s average earnings must be equal to or more than the lower earnings limit which will be increasing from £112 to £113 in April 2017.
