Did you know that new rights have come into force for any women whose expected week of childbirth is on or after 5th October 2008?
Maternity Leave (ML) consists of 52 weeks leave. This is made up of 26 weeks Ordinary Maternity Leave (OML) and 26 weeks Additional Maternity Leave (AML). Currently during OML women continue to receive contractual benefits (ie, accruing holiday entitlement, receiving pension contributions etc). During AML women only receive statutory benefits unless their contract of employment provides otherwise.
The new legislation will mean that women can expect to receive contractual benefits throughout the whole ML period (both OML and AML).
